Last week I had the pleasure of attending the KC Women's Fashion Collaborative; a trunk show en masse of local fashion and jewelry designers. My main reason for going was to see and catch up with my milliner friend who was showing her collection of the most intricately designed hats (check her out at Amina Marie Millinery) and to to catch up with my darling friends who love fashion the same way I do (with reckless abandon).
I tend to choose understated clothing for fashion events and these linen gauchos from Ann Taylor felt just right with high heel sandals and a silk blouse. I'm obssesed with fringe and tassels this season so as a nod to my obsession I wrapped this silk fringed scarf around my waist as an improvised obi belt. When I got the event my eye was immediately caught by an aqua tasseled Trajet by Tracy Morgan bracelet. And what do you know?... by the end of the night, I had made it MINE! It works perfectly with my outfit, don't you think?
I'm definitely planning on stalking several of the other designers I met. Sarah Nelson is a brilliant dress maker (among other things) who really seems to 'get' what women want to wear. Jennifer Janesko had me drolling over her minimaly edgy fine jewelry (I'm saving my pennies for a splurgey piece) and her sister Alicia Janesko makes the most exquisite caftans worthy of a queen. All in all, I had a great time, met some interesting and talented women, and solidified my growing love for my new home in the mid-west. (And I got a new piece of jewelry to love!)
