Trending - Normcore
Several months ago I stumbled upon (and was transfixed by) a NY Magazine article about 'Normcore'; a recent fashion movement adopted by the cool kids on the coasts. Our blogosphere, so saturated with daily outfit posts and the dizzying one up-ing nature of 'street fashion styling', has apparently inspired a desire to pair it down and eschew the latest and greatest artifacts of fashion. It's actually refreshing to embrace Hanes cotton tees and New Balance sneakers as relevant to not only fashion and style, but to our human existence. While I am neither arty, nor odd, enough to be truly Normcore, I think the pioneers of this expression look cool. And I want to try it.
Denim Jacket: Gap '1969 Denim Jacket' // Denim Vest (Worn under top jacket): Thrifted // Tank: Gap 'Pure Body Tank' // Pants: J Crew 'Minnie' // Shoes: New Balance '556' (Hard to find, but cute ones HERE) // Beanie: Thrifted // Rings: Asos // Sunglasses: Ray Ban 'Wayfarer'
Dressed down basics don't need shiny accoutrements to be considered stylish in the world of Normcore. Layering this summer's denim vest underneath my denim jacket is just the right amount of interest. Sensible shoes and a beanie not only feel amazing to scoot around in all day, but they're cute and cool when done in unexpected colors.
I don't know how long I've had these sneakers, but I love them! Old school New Balance have always been my go-to kicks. Not sure? Why not?! They're amazing!
There are so many trends to take notice of, and so many ways to make them your own. The three presented here today happen to be what resonate with ME. As with anything, should they not be right for you, my hope is that you've been inspired to find the ones that are. Happy Monday! and HAPPY STYLING!
