Thanksgiving Remembered

My favorite sensation on Thanksgiving happens not to be the flavor of a family recipe or the familiar din of a family party. The feeling I remember best is the cool air on my face during our after-dinner nature walks. Someone will forget their hat or gloves and have to borrow something warm from the chest in the mudroom. Un-tucked and tipsy we'll leave the house, turn the corner, and head for the lake. Some talk. Some don't. I'll skip rocks, watch the dog stick close by Dawn, and unsuccessfully attempt to photograph my brother. And for me, more than in the midst of dinner, the centerpieces, and the sweaters, Thanksgiving will happen on that walk.
