Transitions
Every year when August arrives I start to feel a shade anxious. It probably has something to do with the steadfast balance required to hit the summer sales before my size is sold out, but after the 80% discount has been applied. And as if that weren't enough to make me a nervous wreck, I also become deeply aware of the amazing (full priced) fall looks popping up in my world that I just gotta have. Since it's still 100 degrees and sweaty everyday, I'm not quite ready for the sweaters, but I do feel the need to slightly transition my summer gear into early fall. Here's how I did it with two key pieces (one of which being an actual score from J Crew's summer sale).
I took the two summer standby's (skinny white jeans and a floaty black maxi) I've been wearing all season with sandals, big shades, and great jewelry...
...and transitioned them to early fall by adding an extra layer here and swapping sandals for an ankle boot there. It turns out a denim jacket and a grey sweatshirt go a long way to make summer clothing a more autumnal.
Early fall delivers some of the most temperate weather - amazing days when it's warm, but not hot; cool but not cold. White jeans and a black maxi are two of the easiest summer pieces to transition because they border on being season-less - SO DON'T PUT THEM AWAY AFTER LABOR DAY! You've got weeks (months?) to enjoy them!
