If there's one thing worth investing in for cold weather dressing, it's absolutely another pair of boots. Don't believe the hype; you DON'T have enough. Since I'm obsessed with grey this season (yes, I'm wearing my grey masculine-cut coat again) I figured I'd get a lot of wear out of a pair of grey-suede tall boots. The round toe and block heel make these great for everyday casual wear, and the fact that they're made from actual suede means they'll be wearable for more than a single year. There's so much micro-suede out there right now! The shopping gods definitely shined upon me when I found this Vince Camuto pair for under $250!

And about the jeans: it's absolutely true that high-rise pants will give you legs for days if you get the proportions of the boot right. In this case, the length of my rise is mirrored in the tallness of the boot shaft, and their slouchy bulk around my calves offests my curvy thighs and rear for a super slim sillhouette.

Tall jeans, tall boots? I definitely plan to play with this pair for the rest of the season!
