Anyone else feel like embroidery is everywhere? I'm not comparing current iterations to the needlepoint pillows my mom used to churn out in the 80s, but delicate stichery is in fact everywhere right now! And despite its 'now-ness', it can't technically be classified a trend because we see it every year. I have stacks of beach tunics and blouses done up in the stuff, so why does it feel so fresh? My guess is it has something to do with the resurgence of the Seventies, and all things flared, tasseled, and otherwise groovy. Even we die-hard J Crew preppies are letting our hair down a little to indulge the flower-child within. Amiright?
For me, this season, I like embroidery when it's done with a little bit of sass. My beach tunics are an indispensable part of my wardrobe, but these days I'm revved up for things like jumpers and kimonos done up in geometric motifs. Take, for instance, this cottony white number I scored from the Zara sale this summer. (Still available and under $40!) I was planning on 'saving' it for the early fall transition but when a cold front came through this week (it didn't even hit 70 degrees one day), I pulled it on with a pair of beat up jeans and voila... we have an outfit I like to think of as 'Hippie-Clean'. 'Hippie' because of the embroidery and fringe. 'Clean' because of the white on white. How are you doing it this season?
